The Working Group Supramolecular Chemistry was founded on 18 March 2025 as part of the Chemiedozententagung in Braunschweig and is the youngest specialist structure within the German Chemical Society (GDCh). Supramolecular chemistry is an interdisciplinary field of research that ranges from organic, inorganic and physical chemistry to life and materials science and has a long tradition in Germany. The research field has grown considerably in importance over the last two decades - as evidenced by the establishment of numerous research networks and the great success of the SupraChem conferences, which have grown steadily since their initiation in 2011; SupraChem 2024 already recorded 330 participants.

GDCh members of all disciplines and experience levels are welcome to join the Working Group . Membership is free of charge for students

Our aim is to promote science and research through

• Exchanging information and experience across disciplines
• Collaborating with other GDCh Divisions and our European sister organisations
• Supporting the next generation of supramolecular chemists
• Promoting the application of supramolecular research in industry
• Honouring outstanding achievements in teaching and research on supramolecular chemistry

We pursue this goal among other things by

• Organising the SupraChem Conferences (2026 at TU Dortmund University)
• Supporting national and international networking activities
• Awarding prizes (to be determined)
• Involvement in the GDCh's training programme (GDCh.academy)
