The Arbeitskreis Archäometrie (AKA) of the GDCh Division of Analytical Chemistry awards the Gerhard Schulze Young Scientist Prize in even-numbered years to honour outstanding theses in the field of archaeometry. Bachelor's, Master's and Diploma theses or comparable scientific theses or dissertations from all areas of archaeometry are considered, with the focus being on innovative and effective work. The prize, which is endowed with 500 euros, will be awarded for the first time at the analytica conference 2026 in Munich. The prize is in memory of Professor Gerhard Schulze, who was instrumental in establishing archaeometric research in the analytical chemistry community. The aim is to promote young scientists, give them the opportunity to network and achieve greater external visibility for the field of archaeometry.

Objective
The Archaeometry Working Group (AKA) of the GDCh Analytical Chemistry Division awards the Gerhard Schulze Young Scientist Prize in even-numbered years to honour outstanding theses (bachelor's, master's, diploma theses or comparable scientific papers or dissertations) in the field of archaeometry. Work from all areas of archaeometry will be considered, with a particular focus on work that is characterised by innovation and effective approaches. The aim is to promote young researchers, give them the opportunity to network and achieve greater visibility for the field of archaeometry.

The prize
The award comes with an award certificate and prize money of 500 euros. The award ceremony will take place during the archaeometry session at the analytica conference, which will be held in Munich from 24 to 26 March 2026. Following the award ceremony, the prizewinner will have the opportunity to present the award-winning research results in the form of a lecture. A prize committee appointed by the AKA Board of Directors will decide on the award of the prize.

Application
The work to be honoured must have been completed no more than two years ago at the time of the submission deadline (see above). All applications must include the following documents:

• a letter of recommendation from a university lecturer or a scientist working at a research institution,
• a short CV with a list of publications,
• the candidate's contact details (e-mail address) and
• the complete thesis (PDF file).
