GDCh Abitur Prize 2025

The GDCh Abitur Prize is an award organised by the German Chemical Society (GDCh) for the best students in the subject of chemistry at grammar schools or comprehensive schools. The GDCh Abitur Prize is intended to strengthen interest in chemistry among the best students.

This is of interest to anyone who wants to study science or engineering, not just prospective students of chemistry, biochemistry, food chemistry or chemistry teaching. Each school may honour one winner per year with a book prize and has the right to offer two further school leavers worthy of an award a one-year free membership. The award is usually presented during the graduation ceremony.

Since 2005 2,900 schools across Germany have taken part in awarding the coveted honour.

And this is the GDCh Abitur Prize ...

The GDCh Abitur Prize currently consists of

  • A book (only possible for one prize winner)
  • A certificate with a letter of congratulations from the GDCh Managing Director
  • A free GDCh membership for one year (on application) and a free online subscription to Nachrichten aus der Chemie
