With around 28,000 members from the worlds of science, business and the liberal professions, the GDCh represents a large community of great professional and social significance. Our history spanning over 150 years, our global network and our high scientific and social standards form the basis for our work in shaping a sustainable, liveable world.

Chemistry needs recognition and support. Its benefits and its general importance for our modern lives and sustainable development are currently greatly underestimated by the public. It is our ambition to change this – by giving chemistry the recognition it deserves and providing it with the space to flourish.

• we promote academic work, research and teaching whilst upholding the highest standards of quality and integrity, as well as the exchange and dissemination of academic knowledge,
• we support the creation of networks, transdisciplinary and international collaboration, and the continuous development of education and professional development in schools, universities and the professional sphere,
• we seek intensive and constructive dialogue with the public to enhance understanding of chemistry and chemical processes,
• we actively and sustainably contribute our expertise to science, politics and society through open communication and trust-based cooperation with our partners,
• we operate independently, continuously and with a lasting impact, as part of the international community of natural scientists, for the benefit of society and with due regard for the expectations of future generations.

Chemists of all nationalities, as well as members of other professional groups with an interest in chemistry, are welcome to join us. We are mindful of our responsibility as scientists and are therefore committed to our code of conduct, which forms part of our statutes.
